(more) I was blown away by the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, which spent almost 34 months in 70% new French oak barrels. The wine is beautifully impressive, with a deep ruby/purple color and notes of loamy soil intermixed with creme de cassis, cedar, and licorice. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, but beautifully nuanced and nicely structured, with sweet, silky tannins. This wine should evolve for at least 20 or more years. The good news is that there are about 3,800 cases of this superb Cabernet.
Altamura has been making wines for almost 20 years, and I certainly thought several of these wines were the best I ever had from them. They are located in Wooden Valley, which is mostly volcanic soils about nine miles northeast of Napa. 94 Points -- Robert Parker!!

(more) The 2006 Shiraz (75%) – Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) “Anaperenna” is the wine formerly known as Godolphin, the change resulting from a trademark dispute. It was aged for 15 months in new French and American oak. Opaque purple, it offers a sensational bouquet of pain grille, scorched earth, meat, game, blueberry, and black currants. This is followed by a surprisingly elegant yet powerful, structured wine with gobs of spicy fruit, ripe tannins, and a plush texture. The long, 60-second finish is succulent and sweet. Give this classy wine 4-6 years in the cellar and enjoy it through 2030. Hats off to Ben Glaetzer for producing an extraordinary portfolio!
The renowned winemaker, Ben Glaetzer, sources all of his fruit for this label from the Ebenezer district in the northern Barossa. Many knowledgeable experts cite this sub-region as the finest in the Valley.

(more) The 2000 Proprietary Red Wine (a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Sangiovese, and 11% Petite Sirah) is outstanding. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a bouquet of charcoal, toasty oak, espresso roast, and black currants. This dense, rich, full-bodied, sweet wine possesses ripe tannin, low acidity, and a plump, layered, concentrated style. It is a hedonistically as well as intellectually pleasing effort to enjoy over the next 7-8 years. 90 Points -- Robert Parker!

(more) BV’s flagship offering, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve reveals a saturated ruby/purple color along with an intriguing perfume of black currants, lead pencil shavings, loamy soil, and wood. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and elegant, this Bordeaux-styled Cabernet finishes a bit short. The aromatics suggest a 90-point wine, and the flavors and finish something in the upper eighties. While it will not rank alongside any of the great BV Private Reserves from the fifties, sixties, seventies, or early eighties, it is a positive development for this historic estate. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. 88 Points -- Robert Parker

(more) Mountain vineyards can be difficult, especially in late, cold years, or in hot, dry years. 2001 gave our demanding Cain Vineyard everything it needed to turn in a wine of great charm and character. Comparing it with the great vintages of the 1990s, the 2001 has more structure than the 1994, but it has almost the same density. The 2001 is also more ripe and fruity than the classically styled 1990 and 1991.
